2 killed, officer hurt in shooting at Walmart

Two dead in a shooting at a Walmart in Memphis

Gunfire erupted at the store in Southaven, Mississippi, a town of nearly 50,000 about 13 miles south of Memphis.

The store is located near I-55 and Goodman Road, a busy section of Southaven.

The suspect was taken to a Memphis hospital.

Officials say two people are dead and a police officer and a suspect were shot at a Walmart in the northern MS city of Southaven, a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee. At least a dozen people were injured; the shooter was killed by police who were working the festival.

The suspect is in custody at Regional Medical Center where he's undergoing surgery. His condition is unknown at the time of writing.

During a press conference held midmorning, Moore said the suspect was shot when two officers confronted him, and they exchanged fire. Several people outside the store reported hearing a series of gunshots. Callers told police there was an active shooter at the store, and another reported a fire inside the building.

The suspect was shot and a police officer was injured. One witness, Phil Cox, told the Commercial Appeal that he thought the suspect "was going after employees". Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite described the shooter as a disgruntled worker with a grievance against his employer; DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco said the shooter was an employee until Monday. The station also reports that a police officer was wounded during the shooting.

A police officer was said to be injured in the shooting but was reportedly protected by a bulletproof vest. "It's just hard to believe what happened here".
