Canada murders: father of suspect fears police shootout as third victim identified

Two teens thought to be missing now suspects in 3 northern B.C. deaths

That manhunt led Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wednesday to issue a public warning as Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, remain at large and wanted in the deaths of three people on Northern B.C. highways.

A burned-out auto found in the area between Gillam and Fox Lake Cree Nation July 22 is the one that B.C. homicide suspects Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, were last seen driving in northern Saskatchewan, Manitoba RCMP said July 24.

The two BC men are also suspects in the double homicide of 23-year-old Australian, Lucas Fowler, and 24-year-old Chynna Deese who were found dead on July 15.

"We are asking the public that if you spot Kam Mclead or Bryer Schmegelsky to consider them as dangerous-take no actions-do not approach-and call 911 immediately".

Courchaine said Thursday there had been no reports of stolen vehicles in the area that could be attributed to the teens.

Mr Forman said local residents had "mixed emotions" as police converged on the area and established checkpoints. The body of man later identified as 64-year-old Leonard Dyck was found just about a mile away from that scorched truck. "He was a loving husband and father", Dyck's family said in a statement through police.

"At this point in the investigation, we believe they are still in the area", Corporal Courchaine said.

One of the teenage suspect's father, Al Schmegelsky, said to Canadian Press on Wednesday that Bryer couldn't handle driving and put the pair as "survivalists" on which he added that his son was venturing on a "suicide mission".

"Police services across the country are on the alert to lend assistance and support to the effort to make sure they are captured", Goodale said on Thursday. The pair of tourists were found dead along the Alaska Highway, south of Liard Hot Springs, a day before Dyck's body was found.

Schmegelsky's father, Alan Schmegelsky, told the Times Colonist that his son was a "good kid".

The most recent sighting was on Monday, RCMP Cpl.

Alan Schmegelsky said that when he last spoke to his son, he claimed he was heading to Alberta with McLeod to look for jobs.

"A child in some very serious pain does", Alan said to The Canadian Press, breaking down into tears.

He said his son and McLeod were disappointed with a recent job Walmart gig - their first jobs since leaving high school - so they made a decision to head off in search of something better up north. Julie Courchaine, a spokeswoman for the Manitoba division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said. Meanwhile, in Jade City, B.C., Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, are spotted in a store where they stopped for free coffee.

Law enforcement say the two may being using a different vehicle, maybe be on foot or even traveling separately.

McLeod and Schmegelsky, best friends since elementary school, had left Port Alberni on Vancouver Island for Whitehorse on July 12 to find work, according to family.

"It's really tough for me to see in the paper today - photos of them alive and well in Saskatchewan because I know they're not lost in the woods". "His influences have been YouTube and video games".

She said the situation was very frightening for everyone who lives in the remote area.

Mr Schmegelsky told media earlier this week the duo had been working night shifts at Walmart in Port Alberni to save money for the trip.
