Malinga Bids Farewell To ODI Cricket

Sri Lanka Pacer Nuwan Kulasekara Retires From International Cricket

Kulasekara's retirement comes days after his former new-ball partner Lasith Malinga called it quits from the 50-over format.

Known for his ability to swing the new ball both ways, the 37-year old exits as Sri Lanka's third-highest ODI wicket-taker among seamers, behind Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga, with 199 scalps in 184 matches.

Sri Lanka on Wednesday reduced their original 22-strong squad to 16 for the three-match one-day global series against Bangladesh in Colombo.

Kulasekara's final appearance for Sri Lanka was an ODI against Zimbabwe at Hambantota.

The star Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Kulasekara finally brings down the curtains for his career in cricket fraternity as the legendary 37-year-old right-arm fast bowler announced his retirement from global cricket format. Kulasekara hadn't played competitive cricket at the senior level since March 2018 during which he played List-A cricket.

Hathurusingha was under pressure to quit after Sri Lanka's dismal showing in the recent World Cup. He played 58 T20Is and recorded 66 wickets.

Kulasekara's one of the memorable moments came when he played a key role during Sri Lanka's victory in the 2014 T20 Men's World Cup. In the final against India in Dhaka, Kulasekara had figures of 1 for 29 with Yuvraj Singh failing to go big against him. He was a part of the team that played 3 World Cup, including playing in the finals twice for the losing causes in the 2007 and 2011. The fast Bowler's career high was against Australia in important ODI series in 2013 where Kulasekara picked five wickets by giving just 22 runs at Brisbane. He had played 21 Tests before calling it quits in 2016.
