Manchester City complete £62.5m Rodri deal

Rodri is set for a move to Manchester City

Manchester City have paid the buyout clause for Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri, the La Liga club have announced.

City's previous club record signing was the £60 million they paid Leicester for Riyad Mahrez in 2018. "It's a style that excites me, as do the club's ambitions", Rodrigo told the Manchester City website, adding that he was looking forward to working with coach Pep Guardiola.

The Spain global made the remark when explaining why City had become a bigger draw than Manchester United for top players. That is one of the things I like most about this coach. I want to learn individually and grow as a football player because I am very young.

Rodri, who has been raised in Villarreal's youth teams and joined the capital side last summer, played a total of 47 matches out of 51 with Atletico across all competitions in the 2018/2019 season.

Pep Guardiola secured Rodri's services for £62.5 million and the luxurious Spanish midfielder has wasted no time in throwing shade at cross-town rivals United.

Rodri, who has played alongside Busquets for the national side, hailed the Barcelona star but admits he can see the similarities between the pair.

"He works hard defensively, makes himself available to receive the ball and uses it well when in possession".

Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, City have won back-to-back Premier League titles, with last season's success coming as part of a domestic treble.

He also attracted rumoured interest from Manchester United, while Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have been linked with a move in recent days, but the Spain worldwide said joining Pep Guardiola's side was an easy choice to make.
