During loss, Fabio Fognini says Wimbledon should be bombed

Tennys Sandgren Fognini's a really good player very talented

A post-match apology is unlikely to save Italian firebrand Fabio Fognini from potentially the largest fine in grand slam history - nearly $360,000 - after saying he wished "a bomb would explode on this club" during Wimbledon defeat.

"Damned English, really. Damned, really".

The facility was actually bombed by Germany during World War II, severely damaging the Centre Court roof.

Apparently unhappy at being assigned to Court 14, one of the tournament's smaller arenas, the Monte Carlo champion said: "Is it fair to play here?"

Later, Fognini apologised for his comment and said, "Something happen on the court, if I feel sorry for somebody, I have to say sorry". "If I feel sorry for somebody, I have to say sorry".

Fognini was already under threat of a ban from two major tournaments for using misogynistic language to a female umpire at the US Open in 2017. The Grand Slam board provisionally suspended Fognini for two majors and fined him $96,000.

Fognini has a history of on court tirades with the Italian defaulted from the 2017 US Open after a foul-mouthed rant to an umpire in his first round match.

"For sure I was not happy about my performance today".

He was docked a then-record $27,500 of his prize money at Wimbledon in 2014 for a series of outbursts during a first-round victory.

Fognini went out in straight sets to Sandgren, 6-3 7-6 6-3, as the American set up a fourth-round meeting with countryman Sam Querrey.
