Chelsea set to complete £40m signing today

Chelsea accidentally confirm the signing of Mateo Kovacic in online gaffe

The Croatian worldwide has signed a five-year contract with the Blues.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek spent the 2017/18 season at Crystal Palace as a Chelsea loanee and he impressed a great deal at the club.

The move ends Kovacic's four-year association with the Spanish giants, having signed from Inter in 2015 and made 110 appearances, scoring three goals.

The England worldwide midfielder will earn £150,000 on a weekly basis for the new contract agreed with Chelsea.

The Blues are unable to sign players this summer after being slapped with a transfer ban for breaking Federation Internationale de Football Association rules.

It's official - English Premier League club Chelsea have officially signed Mateo Kovačić for 45 million euro, which should be the club's only signing this summer, HRT reports on July 1, 2019.

Despite facing a transfer ban, they are able to complete the permanent signing because Kovacic does not have to register as a new player.

A fee for the 25-year-old was agreed last week, followed by personal terms, with Kovacic signing a five-year contract with the Europa League winners.

"Real Madrid and Chelsea have agreed the transfer of the player Mateo Kovacic", the La Liga side said in a statement.

Selling the Croatia worldwide also enables Real Madrid to recoup some of the money they paid Chelsea to sign Eden Hazard, who swapped Stamford Bridge for Bernabeu earlier this month in a deal worth up to £130m.

"We had a successful year, winning the Europa League and I hope I can make a big contribution in the coming seasons".

"Mateo proved what an accomplished player he is during his season on loan with us and we are delighted to welcome him to the club on a permanent basis".
