White House gets new spokesperson

Stephanie Grisham press secretary for First Lady Melania Trump attends the Congressional Picnic on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington DC

Since the early days of the administration, Grisham served as a fierce and loyal spokeswoman for the president's wife, Melania Trump, who announced the appointment Tuesday on Twitter.

The choice has been made on who will take over as White House Press Secretary and that choice was made by Melania Trump. The US Office of the Special Counsel stated that Grisham violated the Hatch Act after she tweeted President Trump's campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again", from her official account (@StephGrisham45) on July 11, 2018: "Three years ago today I listened to my gut & joined the Trump team in #PHX ..." Grisham has also impressed the president and first lady with the way she runs the first lady's communications operation - it's viewed as a tight ship with few leaks.

Once part of the campaign, Grisham wrangled media as Trump canvassed the country.

Grisham was viewed internally as the candidate with the best rapport with President Trump, a key requirement.

In an unusual move, after then-deputy national security adviser Mira Ricardel tangled with the East Wing ahead of the first lady's solo trip to Africa, Grisham issued a statement calling for her to be removed from her role. Grisham became former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's deputy in 2017 before being scooped up by the FLOTUS to become her spokesperson and press secretary.

Sanders praised the pick of her successor. When asked by ABC News about why she wore the jacket, Grisham replied, "It's just a jacket. There was no hidden message".

Last June when Mrs Trump was criticised for her choice of a jacket worn on a trip to a migrant child detention centre in Texas, Ms Grisham quickly lambasted USA media for focusing on the first lady's fashion choice. She would never say, 'I'm keeping Stephanie, " the source familiar who was said to be familiar with the selection process said. Huckabee Sanders told Grisham she should "get used to it".

She previously worked as a spokeswoman and a communications operative in Republican politics, including Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign for president. In the Trump White House, the position of Communication Director has been held by five people.

It's a big step for Grisham, who will also serve as White House communications director.
