Ex-Suns coach, player Danny Ainge suffers mild heart attack

Danny Ainge Celtics

Danny Ainge suffered a mild heart attack in Milwaukee on Tuesday night, according to the Boston Celtics.

Ainge is a former Celtics guard who helped the team win two championships in 1984 and 1986.

The Celtics will continue their National Basketball Association playoff series Friday night against the Milwaukee Bucks in Boston.

Celtics head coach Brad Stevens has been in "constant communication" with Ainge's family and says the former All-Star is "resting well and feels better".

The Celtics announced their GM and team president had the scare in Milwaukee, received "immediate medical attention" and soon will return to Boston, the team said in a statement Thursday. Boston defeated the Bucks 112-90 on Sunday before Milwaukee took down the Celtics 123-102 on Tuesday night. So, you don't even think about anything else.

"To me, he's a friend", Stevens said. "He constantly checks in on my family and everything like that".

"From when I first got here Danny was that person I seen every day". You just want him to be comfortable and feeling great and getting better, good prognosis.

Ainge was a two-sport star at BYU who in 1981 won the Wooden Award as the nation's top college basketball player.

It is unclear when he will be able to attend a game again, but the Celtics are just thankful that he is already on the road to recovery. But in 2007, he acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to play alongside Paul Pierce, beginning in earnest the NBA's "super team" era.
