Disney+ streaming service: Launch date, content, price

Disney+ Confirms Vision and Scarlet Witch, What If?, And More Marvel Shows

This fall, there will be two more high-profile streaming services vying for your hard-earned dollars in addition to Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime: Disney+ and Apple TV+.

The growing competition between the services is already hitting Netflix with some competitors, like Disney, pulling original programming, like the Marvel television shows, and reruns from its service.

"We believe there is vast demand for watching great TV and movies and Netflix only satisfies a small portion of that demand", he said.

Netflix's Chief Product Officer Greg Peters admitted that it was one of a hundred tests that Netflix does each quarter to improve the service but he added that the company was quite bullish about it.

The company reported income of $344.1 million, up 18.6 percent, on revenue of $4.52 billion, up 22.2 percent from past year.

As the cheapest plan for mobile-only subscription is not available to United States consumers, Netflix is seeking to boost its presence in Korea amid growing competition in the streaming service market.

Movies: Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, family friendly 20th Century Fox movies. AT&T Inc's WarnerMedia and Comcast Corp plan to move into the streaming market.

Netflix said it is looking forward to a "strong slate of global content" in the second half of the year including the third series of The Crown, this time starring Oscar-winner Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth II and Stranger Things.

More than a quarter of Netflix open interest is due to expire in the wake of Tuesday afternoon's first-quarter release, with bullish calls outweighing bearish puts. We believe we'll all continue to grow as we each invest more in content and improve our service and as consumers continue to migrate away from linear viewing (similar to how U.S. cable networks collectively grew for years as viewing shifted from broadcast networks during the 1980s and 1990s).

Disney also plans to offer a discount to those customers who buy subscriptions to all three streaming services. But as we gleaned from the company's overhyped presentation last month, Apple had little to show us beyond those famous faces.

Analyst Neil Macker at Morningstar said Disney "came out swinging at its investor day with an aggressive price point" for its streaming service. The monthly price of $6.99 is barely half of Netflix's most popular plan, and Netflix's stock slid almost 5 per cent the day after the Disney+ unveiling. People like Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Chris Evans, Jason Momoa, and Octavia Spencer all have projects lined up at Apple. "We will be testing different options in select countries, where members can, for example, watch Netflix on their mobile device for a lower price and subscribe in shorter increments of time", Netflix said.
