Mike Pence Slams Turkey And Germany In NATO Speech

Turkey's marriage of F-35 and S-400 'absolutely unsustainable,' says EUCOM nominee

"Pending an unequivocal Turkish decision to forgo delivery of the S-400, deliveries and activities associated with the stand-up of Turkey's F-35 operational capability have been suspended", Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Mike Andrews, a Defence Department spokesman, said in a statement.

"We don't see our relations with Russian Federation as an alternative to our relations with others and nobody, neither West nor Russian Federation, should or can ask us to choose between", he added.

"It seems that there is no clear strategy yet" by the U.S.to dial back its military presence in Syria, Cavusoglu said in an interview with PBS NewsHour anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff.

Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met today with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during the NATO Ministerial.

On Monday, the Pentagon announced the United States has halted shipments of F-35 parts to Turkey in response to the Turkish/Russian deal. Russian Federation will deliver the first batch of the defence batteries in late 2019.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held talks on Wednesday during the Turkish official´s visit to Washington as part of 70th anniversary celebrations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance.

"If Germany persists in building the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, as President Trump said, it could turn Germany's economy into literally a captive of Russia", Pence told the event, held incongruously in a hip new music venue. Unlike many other news organizations, we have not put up a paywall. The U-S vice president said it is deeply troubling that Turkey is moving ahead with the plan, even after Washington offered it the Patriot missile system. Turkey wants to buy 100 F-35s, Lockheed Martin Corporation's latest generation of stealth jet fighters.

The decision was made days after a group of Senators introduced a bipartisan bill to delay delivery of the aircraft to Turkey in order to prevent Russian Federation from gaining access to USA military technology. The potential economic opportunities between Turkey and the United States were also a focus of the discussion.

"Should Turkey procure the S-400", acting chief Pentagon spokesperson Charles Summers says in his announcement suspending deliveries to stand-up the program in Turkey, "their continued participation in the F-35 program is at risk".

"Turkey must choose - does it want to remain a critical partner of the most successful military alliance in the history of the world, or does it want to risk the security of that partnership by making reckless decisions that undermine our alliance?" But he also said a joint U.S. The Trump administration recently canceled the sale of advanced F-35 war planes to Turkey as a result of this behavior, which Pence said is unacceptable. The contract's signing was confirmed by the Russian side on September 12, 2017 and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan announced at the time that Turkey had already made an advance payment under the contract.

The state has also carried two-cross border operations in the region.
