Indian jets violate Pakistan's airspace

Payload of hastily escaping Indian aircrafts fell in open

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor informed in a tweet, Indian Air Force violated the LoC and the prompt response from the Pakistan Air Force compelled Indian jets to go back.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan said last week his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi should "give peace a chance".

He said "facing timely and effective response from the PAF, [Indian jets] released [their] payload in haste while escaping, which fell near Balakot".

Pakistani jets were scrambled, forcing the Indian Air Force to leave Pakistani airspace.

The incursion could have been in retaliation for a deadly February 14 suicide bombing in India's half of Kashmir that killed at least 40 troops.

New Delhi -Indian Air Force jets carried out "pre-emptive" strikes on Pakistani territory on Tuesday, stoking tension between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

Analysts predicted a strike by New Delhi after at least 40 Indian paramilitary police died in a suicide bombing on their convoy in Pulwama earlier this month.

Supporters of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) light fireworks to celebrate after Indian authorities said their jets conducted airstrikes on militant camps in Pakistani territory, in Prayagraj, India, February 26, 2019. "I pledge on this soil, I will not let the country die, I will not let the country stop".

Some recalled the so-called "surgical strike" on suspected militant camps in Pakistan in 2016 after an attack by militants on an Indian army camp. He said there were no casualties and no damage.

However, Pakistan has downplayed the attack, saying the aircraft did not cause any damage as the payload was released prematurely when repulsed by forces. Pakistan's government denies it was involved, adding it will retaliate against any military action against it.

Gokhale may have used the unusual characterization to stress the point that India had not, and did not wish to, target Pakistan's own national military assets. The Himalayan region has been divided between India and Pakistan for more than 70 years.

He said India struck the group's biggest training facility located at Balakot in Pakistan.

Mr Ghafoor tweeted that the "intrusion" had come three to four miles across the Line of Control, the border which divides India-administered Kashmir from Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo encouraged both countries to exercise restraint and avoid escalation.

Insurgents in the Indian-controlled Kashmir have been demanding either outright independence or union with Pakistan. "In this operation a very large number of Jaish e Mohammed terrorists, trainers, senior commanders and groups of jihadis, who were being trained for fidayeen action had been eliminated".
