Pakistan does not want to go 'towards war' with India — Military spokesman

Two Indian fighter pilots killed in jet crash

India shot down a Pakistani fighter jet after two of its own aircraft were downed by their neighbors amid escalation in Kashmir on February 27, local media reports said.

India disputed Pakistan's account of the confrontation. India wanted to claim Kashmir because it's a Muslim-majority region and wanted to demonstrate that a significant minority could thrive within a predominantly Hindu country. The two countries, which both have nuclear weapons, have fought several times over Kashmir.

The closures come amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Turkish foreign minister added that Ankara ready to play its part to ease tension between Pakistan, India.

"PAF shot down two Indian aircraft inside Pakistani airspace", he said in a tweet. India said it believed the pilot was missing in action.

"History tells us that wars are full of miscalculation".

The U.S., which has strengthened its relationship with India, called on Pakistan after the bombing earlier this month to "end immediately the support and safe haven provided to all terrorist groups operation on its soil".

Hours later, Pakistani's Civil Aviation Authority also made a decision to shut its airspace to all commercial flights as tension with India escalate.

Hussain reported from Srinagar, India. One pilot was injured and receiving medical treatment and the other was in custody, he said at a news conference in Islamabad.

Indian authorities said the Pakistani jets had been pushed back - and one shot down.

Earlier today, six citizens died after Indian forces once again violated the LoC by resorting to unprovoked mortar shelling. But while India said a large number of JeM fighters had been killed, Pakistani officials said the Indian airstrike was a failure and inflicted no casualties. From us, there is a message of peace.

Unfortunately, once you have this kind of weapons on both sides and if there is a desperate situation, then a desperate situation will lead to desperate measures. We did not want to retaliate at the cost of regional peace. "Nothing is solved through war and no conflict has ever been settled through war". In response, India accused Pakistan of backing the group and vowed to take action.

But he warned: "Of course, we have the right to safeguard our sovereignty, Pakistan will go to any extent to do that".

Pakistan shot down two Indian jets on Wednesday, a spokesman for the Pakistan armed forces said, a day after Indian warplanes struck inside Pakistan for the first time since a war in 1971, prompting leading powers to urge both sides to show restraint. One pilot had been arrested, he said.

The latest wave of tensions between Pakistan and India first erupted after the militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the February 14 suicide bombing of a convoy of India's paramilitary forces in the Indian portion of Kashmir that killed over 40 Indian troops. Two of the pilots have been killed in the incident.

Indian air force spokesman Anupam Banerjee in New Delhi said he had no information on Pakistan's statement.

"We have no intention of escalation, but are fully prepared to do so if forced into that paradigm", he added.

Local officials on the Pakistani side said at least four people had been killed and seven wounded, though it was unclear if the casualties were civilian or military.

Three of a family were among those martyred in the Indian firing. He said India was still "ascertaining" whether its pilot was in Pakistan's custody.

The airlines said on Twitter that flights to cities including Amritsar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jammu, Leh and Srinagar have been put on hold or temporarily suspended.
