Univision anchor Jorge Ramos detained while interviewing Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro

Journalist Jorge Ramos, Univision Crew Reportedly Detained in Venezuela

Also in the Facebook video, Ramos explained that he and his team were separated after the interview was ended.

The story is devloping....

The six-person team, led by anchor Jorge Ramos, was held for more than two hours in the Miraflores palace after Mr Maduro said he did not like their questions, Ramos told reporters after arriving back at his Caracas hotel. Many other nations, including the USA, recognize Juan Guaido as Venezuela's new leader.

"He didn't like the things we were asking, about the lack of democracy in Venezuela, the torture of political prisoners, about the humanitarian crisis that they are living", Ramos told the outlet.

Venezuela's government has accused Washington of attempting to orchestrate a coup. "They think the interview is theirs, not ours".

Univision's news executives were able to find out what happened, he said, because "Jorge managed to call us".

Kimberly Breier, U.S. Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, called for the "immediate release" of the celebrated Mexican-born journalist and his team in a tweet published Monday evening.

Ramos, one of the most influential Spanish-speaking journalists in the USA, told The Associated Press late Monday that Maduro cut short the interview after 17 minutes when he was shown video on an iPad shot a day earlier of young Venezuelans eating food scraps out of the back of a garbage truck.

"But before I left the palace, they took me into a security room with producer Maria Guzman, and they asked for our cell phones. And they're robbing us of our job". "They turned off the lights", he said. Univision spokesman Jose Zamora said Maduro objected to Ramos' questions.

After Juan Guaidó called for a minute's silence for the five people who lost their lives in the aid initiative, Pence told the worldwide press and presidents from across Latin America that it was "unconscionable that Maduro blocked hundreds of tonnes of aid from getting to his impoverished people", and repeatedly denounced that the dictator "danced while trucks full of aid and medicine burned".

According to Coronell, the material is now in the hands of government officials.
