Raging fire guts hundreds of cars at government-run Indian airshow

150 cars gutted in fire near venue of Aero India show

"Today morning at around 1155hrs an unfortunate incident occurred, wherein fire broke out in one of the parking areas outside the venue of Aero India 2019", the IAF said in a statement. The security personnel at the venue were seen engaged in dousing the fires. "It is only because our government didn't relent did the Union government allow the event to be held in Bengaluru", he said rejecting criticism from Shobha that parking lot fire incident had blotted the reputation of internationally acknowledged air show.

After much effort by the fire brigade, the blaze that spread across the parking lot has now been extinguished.

Saturday was the fourth and second-last of Aero India 2019 which commenced on February 20.

Two customer demonstration flights were on while the fire broke out and the show continued unhampered.

A senior RTO official told Deccan Chronicle, "Those who lost their cars in the fire accident have nothing to worry about".

RTO sources said that the helpdesk will be set up to get all the information about the vehicles that caught fire.

The Indian Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the cause of the fire. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

3000 litres of foam normally used to fight aircraft fire was sprayed.

The fire started at 11:55 a.m. and has been brought under control as of this writing.

Earlier this week, one pilot died and two others were injured after two Indian Air Force planes collided in mid-air while rehearsing an aerobatic maneuver.

"No need to panic with regards to fire incident during the Aero India show".
