Pakistani PM says he’s willing to talk but warns India

Pulwana terror attack: Four soldiers KILLED in exchange with militants in Kashmir

At least 44 members of India's central reserve police force (CRPF) were killed on Wednesday when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden auto through a convoy of 77 military vehicles in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

Pakistan has denied any links to the attack on the convoy of reserve police last week.

The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Jaish e Mohammad (JeM), a militant outfit based in Pakistan, and carried out by a 22-year-old militant from south Kashmir. On Kashmir, Khan added, "In India, there should be a new vision".

In his speech, Khan warned India that in the event of an attack Pakistan would retaliate. "And after that where will it head?"

The neighbours have fought three wars since 1947, two of them over Kashmir.

While they have not waged full-scale war since they both tested nuclear weapons in 1998, they have engaged in countless skirmishes along their de facto boundary in the mountains of Kashmir.

"You accused the Pakistani government without providing any evidence, or saying what Pakistan stands to gain from this", Khan said on Tuesday in a recorded statement.

Whether Pakistan was involved in the attack or not, it seems unlikely concerted action will now be taken against JeM.

The AJK president went on to say that India has adopted a despotic attitude towards Kashmiris for the past 71 years and now it is extending the same to Indian Muslims and Pakistan.

Kashmir is at the heart of decades of hostility between India and Pakistan.

A civilian namely Mushtaq Ahmad is said to have received critical wounds during the exchange of gunfight, he said.

He said authorities have spoken with local officials in various cities and also set up help centres for Kashmiris living outside the state.

Only weeks before a spring general election, the worst ever attack on Indian security forces in Kashmir has put significant pressure on India's prime minister, Narendra Modi, to strike back.

"CCI is a sporting association but nation comes first", said Suresh Bafna as he condemned the attack in which a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a military convoy in occupied Kashmir last Thursday.

As tensions remained high, the senior Indian military commander in Kashmir told mothers to ensure their sons surrendered to an ongoing security crackdown or they would be killed.

The last time an attack on Indian forces close to this magnitude occurred in Kashmir was in 2016, when 19 soldiers were killed at a base.

Several cricket fans and a sport official have called on India to boycott a World Cup match against Pakistan in June, while the Cricket Club of India has covered up a portrait of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan - himself a former cricketer - at its Mumbai office.

Earlier Tuesday, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi pleaded with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to intervene in the escalating row.

India has been accused of using excessive force to control protests with thousands of people suffering eye injuries or being blinded by pellet guns.
