Philadelphia 76ers Trade Markelle Fultz: Details

Markelle Fultz is on the move.

- The Philadelphia 76ers have traded 2017 first overall pick Markelle Fultz to the Orlando Magic in the final minutes of the NBA Trade Deadline.

Fultz has been out since November 19 and was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome in mid-December.

The selection of Fultz won't turn out to be a complete wash for the 76ers, but the return of a first-round pick from a projected playoff team, a second-round pick and Simmons pales in comparison to the haul of the No. 3 overall pick and additional first-round pick they sent the Celtics to select him. Since then, he's transformed into a pretty darn good National Basketball Association player, averaging 8.5 points in about 20 minutes of action a night over his four-year career.

Philadelphia has traded Markelle Fultz to the Magic for Jonathon Simmons and a first- and second-round pick, the 76ers announced Thursday. There's a definite possibility that he's never able to put everything together again, but he still has all sorts of talent.

Whether a trade happens or not remains to be seen, but Wojnarowski does believe that there's at least a "possibility" that Fultz has played his last game for the Sixers. He had from the same injury and was forced to sit for much of his rookie season a year ago, appearing in just 14 games. The Sixers just gave away Fultz for next to nothing.

With a cap hit of $8.3 million this season and $9.7 next season, moving Fultz became necessary if the Sixers plan on trying to sign both Jimmy Butler and newly-acquired Tobias Harris this offseason.

Eleven-year veteran D.J. Augustin is the current starting point guard in Orlando.
