European Union 'is prepared to delay Brexit until at least July'

Reader's Letter

It was the second setback in 24 hours for the prime minister, after MPs also voted to deny the government certain taxation powers in a no-deal scenario - an attempt to scupper that prospect.

United Kingdom data disappointed, indicating shrinking business activity amid Brexit uncertainty.

As May made a last-ditch appeal to members of Parliament, the Guardian reported the European Union is expecting a request from London to extend the March 29 deadline for leaving the bloc.

While Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay said there had been "some movement" from MPs to support the agreement which is widely expected to be defeated, he said he thought that if it fell the Commons would eventually support something "along the lines of this deal". The monthly GDP was of 0.2%, better than the previous 0.1%.

MPs are expected to reject the Prime Minister's Brexit plan when it is put to a vote in Parliament on Tuesday, but Theresa May has warned them that failing to deliver on Brexit would be a "catastrophic and unforgivable" breach of trust in the UK's democracy.

From a technical point of view, the daily chart offers a bullish stance, as the pair has held throughout the week above a bullish 20 DMA, now gaining upward traction around 1.2680, as technical indicators maintain their upward slopes in positive levels, although with limited strength.

The government has made a fresh plea to MPs to get behind the deal.

Under the rebels' plan, reported in the Sunday Times, the Government would lose control of parliamentary business which would threaten Brexit legislation and the Government's ability to govern.

Meanwhile Mrs May warned of a "catastrophic and unforgivable breach of trust" in democracy if Brexit is stopped.

He added: "I would like the House of Commons now to take control because the prime minister has failed to give leadership".

"As politicians, we've got a responsibility to have a conversation with everybody that we now know that Brexit is going to be painful".

Sir Vince said this could happen by cancelling Article 50 - which he noted would be "resented by lots of people" - or via a second referendum.

On Monday the debate on the meaningful vote on Mrs May's deal will resume for a fourth day.

This is too important for political game-playing and I urge Conservative MPs who back Brexit and others to back the deal.

The vote had been scheduled to take place in December but was called off at the last minute by the prime minister, who was facing nearly certain defeat.

In a significant shift of tone apparently created to win over hardline Brexiteers who have set their faces against Mrs May's deal, Mr Hunt warned that defeat next week would not necessarily provide MPs with the opportunity to choose their preferred version of Brexit.

Appearing on The Andrew Marr Show this morning, the opposition leader said that if Labour fails to force a general election, the party is then "into the consideration" of another referendum.
