Ocasio-Cortez’s Attacks on Democrats Have Party Scrambling for Damage Control

Donald Trump

Some House Democrats have been unhappy with progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's resistance to falling in line with her fellow party members, particularly her threats to support primary challenges against incumbents, Politico reported Friday.

Ocascio-Cortez previously responded to Lieberman's statement, writing on Twitter, "New party, who dis?".

They also quoted Democrats, such as Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) saying things like this: "I'm sure Ms. Cortez means well, but there's nearly an outstanding rule: Don't attack your own people".

The campaign of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a champion of progressive policies and supposed advocate of the working class, has been fined for not carrying workers' compensation coverage during a period of the campaign past year.

According to Politico, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) said, "I'm sure Ms. Cortez means well, but there's nearly an outstanding rule: Don't attack your own people".

The Politico report follows criticism from high profile former members of Congress like Democrat Claire McCaskill, a former senator from Missouri. "We just don't need sniping in our Democratic Caucus". But their frustration goes beyond that: Democratic leaders are upset that she railed against their new set of House rules on Twitter the first week of the new Congress.

Some lawmakers are trying to convince Ocasio-Cortez to use her influence to unite Democrats, while others have warned her that she's headed for a lonely tenure in Congress if she treats her more moderate colleagues as enemies, the report said.

Ocasio-Cortez parried back: "To quote Alan Moore: 'None of you understand".

According to the NYDN, a "Democratic campaign veteran scoffed that "it's not a great look" for Ocasio-Cortez that her campaign received a fine for not carrying workers' compensation coverage".

"She's new here, feeling her way around", Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR) said.

So no, I don't think Lieberman exactly has his finger on the pulse of the Democratic Party but it's cute that Fox is letting him play.
