Federer, Williams eager for Hopman match

Federer happy in Perth

Roger Federer has started his Hopman Cup campaign in flawless fashion, brushing past world No.91 Cameron Norrie 6-1 6-1 in 57 minutes.

Great Britain made a winning start to the tournament on Saturday but their match with Switzerland got off to a bad start as Federer won the opening singles rubber in comprehensive fashion. The 37-year-olds have won 43 Grand Slam singles titles between them.

"He came up with some big shots, but so did I and managed to hold my nerve", he said.

After beating Norrie, Federer said: "This was a great start, but there is a long, long way to go here - and in Melbourne [for the Australian Open], obviously".

I played a wonderful match. "I was not missing any rhythm", the tournament website cited Federer as saying after the 57-minute win.

"It's still early days, but I feel like I've played some sets and points in practice, so you kind of know where you are", Federer said.

The result put Britain top of their group - also comprising Greece, Switzerland and United States - after the opening day of competition. "I was happy with all aspects of my game, footwork, offensive play, serve, return".

Belinda Bencic stormed seven points in the tie-break of the second set to outclass Katie Boulter 6-2, 7-6. Later on, Team Switzerland won also the mixed doubles 4-3 4-1 to complete a flawless day.

The Britons clinched the first set in the mixed doubles, but the Greeks fought back as Tsitsipas adjusted to his first-ever mixed doubles match.

And the 37-year-old is looking forward to the mixed doubles clash with the U.S., where he will face off against 23-time grand slam victor Serena Williams.

In the day's other match, Germany whitewashed Spain 3-0 with Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev coming through tight tussles with Garbine Muguruza and David Ferrer respectively.

Tsitsipas is one of the hottest young talents in world tennis, having shot from 91st in the world at the start of the year to his current lofty heights of 15th.

The Swiss tennis great who claimed four titles past year, including his sixth Australian Open trophy, said he is "motivated" for the 2019 tour after having intense off-season preparation.
