British couple to be reunited with engagement ring lost in Times Square

Police are seeking a couple who lost an engagement ring down a grate in NY moments after the man popped the question.

"We still haven't found our "almost engaged" couple WANTED for dropping their ring in Times Square". They left without filing a police report or providing their contact information. No doubt the ring will be returned to its owners in no time at all and the pair can have another go at their special moment. The man popped the question in the middle of Times Square, police said, and then lost hold of the engagement ring.

According to the Associated Press, the couple appealed to the police for help after losing the ring, but emergency service officers were unable to locate it.

On Twitter and Facebook Sunday, the NYPD issued an all-hands bulletin.

Police officers said that it fell around 2.4m down the grate.

Local man John was proposing to his girlfriend Daniella at Times Square when he dropped the ring down a drain.

The couple spotted the Twitter post as soon as they touched down in London on Sunday morning.

Even NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill chimed in. "The (now) happy couple is back in their home country, but thanks to your retweets they heard we were looking for them!" the police wrote.

"WE HAVE YOUR RING!" the NYPD's Midtown North Precinct tweeted after the jewelry was recovered.

"Wasn't a Twitter user, I am and will be forever grateful to all who have helped me get my ring back!"
