Tunisians protest against MBS visit for second day

Republican Sen. Mike Lee: ‘Next Congress’ Will Likely ‘Look Into’ Motive Behind Trump’s Decision-Making On Saudi Arabia

Lindsey Graham told Axios he try to punish Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman if the Central Intelligence Agency has in fact determined that MBS was likely responsible for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

According to Al-Arabiya, they held closed-door bilateral talks.

Regional allies, meanwhile, have thrown their support behind the Crown Prince.

On his first stop on the tour, in the United Arab Emirates, the crown prince was embraced on the tarmac by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, a close ally who has reportedly served as a mentor to the 33-year-old royal.

"It's inconsistent with the intelligence I've seen", Lee said.

Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and columnist for The Washington Post, went missing after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Saudi Arabia wants to work more closely with Russian Federation in the fields of nuclear energy and oil, describing it as beneficial for the whole world.

"The submission also highlights his possible complicity in serious allegations of torture and other ill treatment of Saudi citizens, including the murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi", the rights group said in a statement.

"Tunisian civil-society groups are organizing protests against bin Salman's scheduled visit on Tuesday", Sakina Abdel Samad, a member of the Tunisian Journalists' Syndicate, told reporters on Monday at the syndicate's Tunis headquarters.

Prince Mohammed was greeted with a ceremonial reception and both the Saudi and Tunisian national anthems were played and a guard of honor expected.

Campaigners have long accused MBS of being the "chief architect" of the devastating war in Yemen, which is believed to have killed tens of thousands of people, including many children.

The crown prince has found a backer in President Donald Trump, who has called the Khashoggi murder abhorrent but stressed bin Salman's denials of complicity as well as the interdependent economic relationship between the us and Saudi Arabia.

But many Tunisians are angry over the killing and suspicions of the prince's involvement.

A bipartisan pair of senators also have invoked the Global Magnitsky Act, which enables sanctions over human rights offenses, to force Trump to formally say within a few months whether he thinks Mohammed was responsible for Khashoggi's death.

Moroccan media have speculated on the reason for the snub, with Morocco World News quoting a government source as saying King Mohammed VI had declined to meet with the Saudi leader, citing a "busy schedule".
