Woman Reveals She Made Up Allegation Against Justice Kavanaugh

Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh attends his ceremonial swearing in in the East Room of the White House Oct. 08 2018

President Donald Trump on Saturday launched an attack on all of the women who came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct and substance abuse against Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

One of Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh's accusers admitted this week that she made up her lurid tale of a backseat vehicle rape, saying it "was a tactic" to try to derail the judge's confirmation to the Supreme Court. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., accusing Brett Kavanaugh of raping her now admits she engaged in a "ploy" against the then-Supreme Court nominee. What about the others?

Once the Senate Judiciary Committee staff heard Judge Kavanaugh's denial and learned Monro-Leighton's identity, they began to do some research into her past.

The allegation made by a woman named Judy Munro-Leighton was not considered serious by Senate investigators and contrasts to the allegations made by Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez, who were both interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She said she'd never met Kavanaugh, but was against his nomination. Grassley heads the Senate Judiciary Committee that held hearings on allegations against Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh's confirmation in October was complicated by several allegations of sexual misconduct, including by California psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford referring to the alleged misconduct during their college years.

The accusation from the anonymous letter was one of many that were leveled against Kavanaugh, who would eventually replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court.

"Following the separate and extensive investigations by both the Committee and the FBI, there was no evidence to substantiate any of the claims of sexual assault made against Justice Kavanaugh". "The letter contained highly graphic sexual-assault accusations against Judge Kavanaugh".

His letter also noted, "In short, during the Committee's time-sensitive investigation of allegations against Judge Kavanaugh, Ms. Munro-Leighton submitted a fabricated allegation, which diverted Committee resources".

When they finally spoke with her Thursday, she claimed she wasn't Jane Doe - but had heard about the letter and claimed to be Jane Doe so it would get more attention. She told Committee investigators that she had called Congress multiple times during the Kavanaugh hearing process - including prior to the time Dr. Ford's allegations surfaced - to oppose his nomination. allegation she made via her email to the Committee, she said: "I was angry, and I sent it out". "I am not Jane Doe".

In addition to the allegations made by Christine Ford, the committee investigated claims made by Deborah Ramirez, Julie Swetnick, and three anonymous accusers. Such acts are not only unfair; they are potentially illegal.

The "Jane Doe" in the letter claimed that Kavanaugh and his friend "sexually assaulted and raped me in his auto", but provided no timeframe of the incident, and no return address.
