Diablo Immortal revealed at BlizzCon 2018

Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard describes Diablo Immortal as a "full-fledged action RPG" just like it's PC counterpart and it's interesting to see how it's all going to work out.

However, there have been some mixed opinions from fans over Diablo's new iteration, with some fans worrying that the mobile format will mean microtransactions.

During the BlizzCon opening ceremony, Blizzard announced Diablo: Immortal, a brand-new Diablo game made exclusively for iOS and Android mobile devices, but the Diablo community has reacted extremely negatively. "This game should be cancelled and Blizzard should be ashamed of it". Immortal takes place between the conclusion of Diablo 2's Lord of Destruction expansion, where Tyrael smashed the Worldstone to bits after Baal corrupted it, and the familiar story of Diablo 3 and the Lord of Terror's return.

Blizzard is the home to some of the biggest game franchises of all time: Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, and more recently Overwatch.

Which admittedly looks really good in action thanks to the pair of trailers we got, one cinematic and one showing gameplay.

Diablo, Blizzard's longest running title, has just announced a move to mobile at Blizzcon. You can even join them to take on unsafe dungeons. According to Blizzard, more playable classes will be added in future updates. In a blog post two weeks ago, Blizzard all but said as much, telling fans that the highly anticipated Diablo III sequel would not be at this year's convention.

There are more details on the game's website as well as the Activision press release, including the six character classes players will choose from; Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer and Wizard.

Since Diablo originated on battle.net Diablo: Immortal will have battle.net integration. Though it does say that pre-registration is open on Google Play first, with the Apple App Store's coming soon. In the Q&A portion of the reveal at BlizzCon, one fan even asked the developers if this release was an out-of-season April Fools' joke.
