New Spirits Mode For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Announced

Watch the Final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Direct Live!

Kicking off at 7 AM PT/10 AM ET, Nintendo is bringing us a 40 minute Nintendo Direct livestream exclusively about new details for the upcoming Super Smash Bros.

New fighters were announced today for Super Smash Bros.

Entitled "World of Light", it sees a mysterious force causing numerous video game characters to lose their bodies and transform into Spirits.

Ken from Street Fighter is an echo fighter of Ryu, while Incineroar from Pokémon Sun/Moon is a brand-new character with a lot of wrestling moves. Significantly, it also outlined the last remaining mode: Spirits. You'll explore a map and encounter other fighters.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will include every single fighter ever featured in the series' almost two-decade run, making it one of the biggest crossover events in gaming history. You can team up with another person on the same Nintendo Switch for co-op matches online against other two-player teams. Ultimate. Instead, the matchmaking will rely on preferred rules, your global smash power, and your proximity to other players. Ultimate, just short of actually throwing a character (or better yet, a deejay llama) into the game.

The Mii Fighter gets some brand new outfits to use, too, with a Splatoon set, an Arms set, a Chibi Robo costume, a Toy-Con set, and a Ray MkIII one all shown. As a result, Nintendo didn't confirm what any of the DLC actually is. A season pass will be available called a Fighters Pass, which will offer all five of the scheduled DLC characters once they become available.

The first of the DLC roster additions is the Piranha Plant, who will be free shortly after launch.
