Apple: New Design & Retina display for the MacBook Air 2018

Apple event live: New iPad Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini expected to be launched - latest news

When it comes to connecting your devices, the new MacBook Air has two USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports, much like Apple's recent MacBook Pro lineup. It's late to the game, sure, but now that it is here and with the holiday season upon us, Apple is likely going to sell a lot of these in the coming months.

NEW YORK-The wait is over: Apple on Tuesday unveiled a revamped MacBook Air at an event in Brooklyn, New York.

The all-new MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch Retina display. The Touch ID sensor is built into the keyboard in the upper right corner, and its durable sapphire crystal surface covers a T2 security chip.

That might ruffle some feathers, but Apple has at least gone for the Force Touch trackpad found on the MacBook Pros, which also contains stuff like Touch ID for secure login thanks to the use of Apple's T2 security chip with its secure enclave.

It comes with up to 1.4 terabytes of storage and up to 16GB of Ram. First up, a totally redesigned MacBook Air, with a Retina display, headphone jack, and two USB-C ports. The new display also has improved colour accuracy by 48 percent compared to the previous Air.

The new MacBook Air will start at $1,199 with 8GB of RAM, 1.6GHz Core i5 CPU, and 128GB SSD.

The price starts at $1199.00 which isn't the $999 the previous generation eventually dropped down to, but also isn't as high as the original started at. That "Retina" display should be a massive leap from the 1440x900 display of the past MacBook Air, which was simply outdated for a $1,000 laptop in 2018. Apple says that the battery will last 13 hours while playing movies on iTunes, or 12 hours while browsing the web.

Before launching the MacBook Air Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Mac now has over 100 million active users. Despite the narrower border design, the FaceTime camera was kept at the top of the display.

After today's event, the future of the standard MacBook looks shakier than that of the Air. It is made from 100% recycled tin and 35% recycled plastic, in addition to a custom Apple-designed alloy that employs 100% recycled aluminum.

Lastly, as we are massive audiophiles here at T3, we were also impressed with the new MacBook Air's upgraded audio system. It basically means the pad doesn't move, but you can also do "press and hold" clicks to open up new options.

Apple's most lovely MacBook ever? We'll update the guide periodically as new information about the notebook is available. "Unlike any notebook that's come before or since, MacBook Air has become the most beloved notebook ever".
