The search and rescue group found bodies of two servicemen, the official confirmed. USAFE also said that mishap is already under investigation.

A statement said it "can confirm a US service member was involved in this incident", but stopped short of confirming the American's death.

The Ukrainian military issued a statement that said both pilots - one Ukrainian, one American - were killed when the jet crashed in the Vinnytsia region, about 140 miles southwest of Kiev, Ukraine's capital.

According to Ukrainian military portal, the fighter participated in the global drills Clear Sky 2018. "It is now under investigation and we will continue to provide more information as it becomes available", it added.

A Ukrainian Su-27 fighter jet lands during the Clear Sky 2018 multinational military drills at Starokostiantyniv Air Base in Khmelnytskyi Region, Ukraine, on October 12, 2018.
