Jamal Khashoggi case: Saudis defy 'threats' over missing writer

World War 3: Donald Trump vows ‘severe punishment’ if Saudi Arabia murdered journalist

Pressure has mounted on the WWE to cancel the event, or change the location of it, following the drama that now surrounds the country of Saudi Arabia.

Khashoggi, journalist and columnist for The Washington Post, has been missing since he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

"They demanded for what they called a "credible investigation" to establish the truth about what happened to Jamal Khashoggi and to identify those responsible for his disappearance".

"We encourage joint Saudi-Turkish efforts in that regard, and expect the Saudi government to provide a completely and detailed response". He added, "We heard about Khashoggi going missing the day before we were supposed to leave, two days before, but the next day was when we had to go and it just didn't feel like a smart move".

Turkish officials have said that they believe Mr. Khashoggi was killed inside the mission and claims have been leaked to media that he was tortured and even dismembered.

A Gulf banker said the Khashoggi case, combined with other events, had become a significant factor for some potential investors in Saudi Arabia and that her bank was receiving many queries from foreign clients on how to interpret it.

Still, he was careful to hedge his language - as he has been largely since Khashoggi vanished after the journalist's visit to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

"What they need to do is co-operate fully with the investigations that the Turks are asking us to do and to get to the bottom of this". The UK's Foreign Minister, Jeremy Hunt, had also said that they would have to "think about the appropriate way to react" if Saudi Arabia is found guilty in Khashoggi's disappearance.

Saudi newspapers have published aggressive front-page headlines, mirroring a statement by the kingdom warning that it won't be threatened amid concerns about the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Turkish officials have expressed frustration at Saudi's level of cooperation, having still not been allowed to access the consulate building, despite promises.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi King Salman last night discussed the case of missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi in their first telephone talks on the controversy, both sides said.

But White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow says the conference will deal with terrorist financing and how to stop it, and that "at the moment", Mnuchin intends to go.

A joint statement of condemnation, if it is confirmed that Mr Khashoggi was killed by Saudi agents, is also being discussed by United States and European diplomats. "There has been a kind of uncertainty surrounding the situation of the disappearance of Khashoggi, which has caused the market to fall", Mr. Zidan said.

As investors took fright, Saudi stocks tumbled by around 7% at one point on Sunday, wiping out their gains for 2018. In his CBS interview the president reiterated earlier concerns that any punishment shouldn't impact trade with Saudi Arabia, signaling that cutting off USA military sales to the kingdom may not be an option.

Now, President Trump is threatening "severe punishment" for Saudi Arabia if suspicions of Khashoggi's murder are confirmed - and Saudis have vowed to retaliate in kind.

The statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency also warned that the kingdom would respond to any steps taken against it with "greater action".
