Warning of heavy rain

Storm Callum is expected to smash into Britain during Friday when a band of heavy rain and wind will pass over the country

"This event is predominantly expected to be a coastal one, though the severe winds will extend to inland parts, especially overnight and very early on Friday morning", Met Éireann has added.

Rainfall totals could reach as high as 150mm over the Brecon Beacons, almost as high as the monthly average of 170mm for Wales.

The Met Office said some delays were likely to road, rail, air and ferry transport and that short term loss of power was possible in the Friday alert which lasts till midnight.

The main faults are reported in Cork and Kerry, with localised pockets up the western seaboard.

It's likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by large waves and rough seas as high tides are near their peak. But there had been no confirmation was open again by 10.30am.

Around 150 homes and businesses were still without power on Friday afternoon due to the damage caused by Storm Callum.

As the storm continued to move eastward, the UK Met Office issued an amber rain weather warning in areas of southern Wales, with 40-80 mm of rain expected and a yellow status warning for southern England as the UK braces for the storm to hit.

There has been widespread disruption to traffic and travel, with flights delayed and roads closed due to fallen trees.

Areas in the south and south west could see between 50 and 100mm of rain by the end of Friday, with as much as 120 to 160mm falling over high, south-facing ground. "Elsewhere, however, the winds should remain below warning thresholds".

And while Windsor, the scene of Friday's royal wedding, looks set to escape the worst of the storm, those charged with carrying any train on Princess Eugenie's dress may have a challenge on their hands, Ms Kent added.

Guests arriving at the royal wedding in a windy Windsor had to hold on to their hats, with gusts of up to 32 miles per hour.

What time is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's royal wedding?

"It's going to be blowy but not enough to cause any weather impacts", she said.
