Orrin Hatch says Kavanaugh accuser may be 'mixed up'

Kavanaugh Doubles Down on Denial – But Makes Secret Visit to White House

John Cornyn, the second-ranking Republican in the Senate, called Monday for "bipartisan participation" in addressing sexual assault allegations against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh that have thrown the prospects of his pending confirmation vote into chaos. Susan Collins, a key Republican swing vote who has been at the center of the left's efforts to block the judge's nomination to the Supreme Court.

"Judge Kavanaugh looks forward to a hearing where he can clear his name of this false allegation".

Cornyn said Senate Republicans used a closed-door meeting Monday to agree to the public hearing. "She will agree to participate in any proceedings that she's asked to participate in". But so far, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has yet to say he's even considering delaying the vote. The White House would not confirm whether Kavanaugh knew Ford.

Mr Kavanaugh, 53, has released a statement calling the allegation against him "completely false".

In the interview, Ford says she never revealed what had happened to her until 2012, when she and her husband sought couples therapy.

Kavanaugh later issued a fresh denial of the allegations, which have roiled his confirmation process, saying he is willing to talk to the committee in any way it "deems appropriate". But President Donald Trump telegraphed earlier Monday that that schedule might slow.

Demand Justice, one of the leading anti-Kavanaugh groups on the left, told ABC News Monday that they are planning a $700,000 television and digital advertising blitz in four states, Alaska, Colorado, Maine and Nevada, that will focus on Dr. Ford's allegations.

Ford, for her part, has also said she is willing to testify publicly about her allegation. He told reporters at the White House: "If it takes a little delay, it will take a little delay". "I think that's going to [tick] off an bad lot of people, including women, who are more prone to vote in this day and age than men are". "Most importantly I want the American people to be happy, because they're getting somebody that is great". "This woman will be heard". Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., before Thursday's scheduled vote. When she testified before the Judiciary Committee, senators on both sides of the all-male panel questioned her credibility.

A Senate committee may be forced to postpone its vote this week on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, while members explore fresh allegations of a decades-old sexual assault.

Nearly a quarter - 23% - didn't know whether the Senate should vote to confirm Kavanaugh, slightly fewer than "didn't know" about Thomas in July (pre-Hill accusations) - 31%.

Democrats called for the judiciary committee to hold off its Thursday vote, The Washington Post reported. "I dated him in college and he was and is nothing like the person who has been described".

"I agree with Sen". And he criticized Democrats, who he said should have "done this a lot sooner because they had this information for many months".

This letter appears to be a response to the letter that emerged on Friday signed by 65 women who attended high school with Kavanaugh during the period of time he's alleged to have sexually assaulted Ford, and vouched for his upstanding character.

"Because this never happened, I had no idea who was making this accusation until she identified herself yesterday", he said. Murkowski said Ford's story "must be taken seriously". But faced with a growing Me Too movement, they are also sensitive about appearances.

"We are not going to allow a last-minute smear campaign destroy a good and decent man who has an unblemished personal record", an adviser to the Judicial Crisis Network said in a statement.

Republicans have blasted Democrats for the way in which the accusation came out - at the 11th hour, while for six weeks, the senior Democrat on the committee, Sen. The results concluded Ford was truthful when she said a statement summarizing her allegations was accurate, according to the newspaper.

Underscoring the raw political divisions prompted by the Kavanaugh fight, Feinstein said she'd only learned of the hearing on Twitter.
