Nintendo Switch Will Launch New Online Service September 18

You'll be able to play Super Mario Bros. 3 on your Nintendo Switch next Tuesday. Nintendo

While fans expected the Nintendo Direct to be rescheduled, the launch date for the online service was a bit of a surprise. However, some key Switch titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 will require the subscription. That said, you never know- the company could introduce a beta test for something like Super Smash Bros.

The move comes after Nintendo announced in July that its quarterly profits had jumped 44 per cent in the fiscal first quarter, thanks to increased sales of Nintendo Switch game titles. Nintendo plans to flip the switch, so to speak, on September 18 (next Tuesday), and will be offering up a free 7-day trial to peruse the service before committing to a paid subscription, which will start at $3.99 per month.

However, we did get a few more details about the 3DS port during this Nintendo Direct, including a look at two-player gameplay.

"Due to the powerful natural disaster in Hokkaido, Japan, we have chose to delay this week's planned Nintendo Direct", Nintendo said in a statement.

But now the House of Mario has confirmed that the Nintendo Direct will be taking place on either September 13 or 14 - depending on your time zone. It's still set for the same time, 6:00 p.m.

"It'll last approximately 35 minutes". Online services are now free, but the company announced a while back that it would be switching to a paid subscription model.

The one-week trial will be accessible through the Nintendo Switch eShop, allowing players to try out the service before signing up for one of its membership plans. Creating a family group lets up to eight people share a membership, even on different consoles.

The online service will also come with a cloud backup feature that will store Switch owners save files in case their console is lost or broken. Users will also get access to online-enabled NES games, like Super Mario Bros.

If you and a friend both own the game, you can team up to tackle the campaign together.

One of the new titles, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, sold 1.4 million units between May and June.
