Trump calls for Justice Department to investigate author of Times op-ed

President Donald J. Trump delivers remarks from the White House

Greg Gutfeld said the controversial New York Times op-ed allegedly written by an anonymous senior Trump administration official "doesn't hurt Trump a bit".

US President Donald Trump struggled to pronounce the word anonymous during his condemnation of a New York Times column that has thrown the White House into turmoil.

"But Rudy Giuliani, the president's attorney, suggested that it "would be appropriate" for Trump to ask for a formal investigation into the identity of the op-ed author". "[Donald Trump] has a clear governing vision for the country and his record of results is remarkable. We did not. From the beginning of our tenure, we have insisted that the entire IC remain focused on our mission to provide the President and policymakers with the best intelligence possible", Coats said.

Pelosi mused about "who wrote it, who has denied it already".

Let's just hope this saga doesn't end like this.

And Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, a key ally of Trump's, called for the president to order those suspected of being the author to undergo lie-detector tests.

On the defensive over damning accounts of the inner workings of his administration, Donald Trump set out on Friday (Sep 7) to discredit the testimony that cast doubt on his ability to lead the United States.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump said, "we're going to take a look at what he had, what he gave, what he's talking about, also where he is right now".

Another tweet joked: 'What if Anonymous wrote that piece because he knows Trump can't say anonymous?'

The Times said it is publishing the anonymous piece at the request of the author whose identity is known to it and "whose job would be jeopardized by its disclosure".

The official described a "two-track" presidency in which Trump says one thing and his staff consciously does another, for example with regard to what he called Trump's "preference for autocrats and dictators".

Trump had threatened to sue the Times when he was running for president in October 2016 because of its story about allegations of sexual assault against women. I think it's more disgraceful that the New York Times would do it. "We did not", he said in a statement.

"It could motivate Trump to pursue the Erdogan-style purge of the bureaucracy that he hasn't pursued yet", said an unnamed Justice Department trial attorney. A wounded lion is a very risky animal, and I think Donald Trump is wounded.
