US national security adviser presses Russia about US election meddling

How Iran welcomes American Tourists without the US Government ever knowing | Travel News

National Security Adviser John Bolton told Reuters Wednesday-ahead of his meeting with Director of Russia's Security Service Nikolai Patrushev in Geneva on Thursday-that President Vladimir Putin had told President Trump in Helsinki last July that he is unable to force Iran out of Syria. Farther-reaching sanctions are to follow in November on Iran's banking sector and oil exports.

"The worsening of bilateral relations is continuing, we need to identify some kind of areas for cooperation and also to understand if there are any such areas and whether our counterpart (the United States) has a desire for this", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call.

Trump's national security adviser said that current United States policy was not to force an ouster of the current Iranian regime, but to influence a massive change in its behavior. He did not elaborate. Tehran has always denied pursuing a bomb, maintaining that its nuclear programme is for peaceful energy production.

Israel has pushed Russian Federation to at a minimum keep Iranian forces and their allies, such as Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, far away from the ceasefire line in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

He did not elaborate on which forces would carry out such attacks, but Iran has said it could target Israeli cities with its missiles if it was threatened.

"We're not going to solve Syria here", he said.

The Trump administration reimposed sanctions this month after withdrawing from the 2015 global nuclear agreement with Iran. "Besides sanctions, they are talking about war and negotiations". "But Iranian activity in the region has continued to be belligerent", he added, citing Iran's role in Iraq, Syria and the Persian Gulf.

Trump has condemned the deal as too soft on Tehran and would not stop it developing a nuclear bomb, though United Nations nuclear non-proliferation inspectors have repeatedly certified Iranian compliance with its terms. Neither issue was covered by the 2015 agreement.

In an interview he gave as recently as this week, Trump, decrying the ongoing special counsel probe into connections between his presidential campaign and Russia, said the investigation "played right into the Russians' - if it was Russia - they played right into the Russians' hands".

"Americans say you should accept what we say in the talks".

"Our objective is that all Iranian forces return to Iran, and that would be an objective that I think President Putin would share", Bolton said, adding that they "talked about a variety of ways in which it might be accomplished through a series of steps". The protests over the cost of living have often turned into anti-government rallies.

Some reports have speculated that the plan could be unveiled by Trump at the upcoming UN General Assembly in late September, while others have suggested that the White House could wait until after midterm elections in the U.S. and Israeli parliamentary elections both scheduled to be held in November.
