Jailed aid worker temporarily freed in Iran

Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested at Tehran airport in April 2016

She was called on Thursday morning while still in her night clothes and was told she had 10 minutes to get ready because she was being temporarily released from Evin prison.

A British-Iranian woman jailed in Tehran for more than two years for allegedly plotting to overthrow Iran's government has been released for three days.

A gaffe by Hunt's predecessor, Boris Johnson, in the British parliament in September led Iranian authorities to claim he had confirmed that Zaghari-Ratcliffe - who was on holiday in Iran to introduce her baby daughter to her parents - had trained journalists while in the country.

"I think the very next steps are to see if we can extend the furlough beyond three days", he said.

The temporary release was meant to allow her to see her family, particularly her daughter, the ambassador said.

Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested in April 2016 at a Tehran airport as she was heading back to Britain with her two-year-old daughter after a family visit.

She was told that she would not be able to fly because of passport issues - however she was later interrogated on issues relating to national security and as a result, her daughter was taken to Tehran to live with her grandparents.

As a condition of the furlough, Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been barred from conducting any interviews with the media, can not visit the grounds of any foreign embassy and may not attempt to leave the country, the statement from Free Nazanin said.

She then called her husband and the British embassy and traveled to join the rest of her Iranian family in Damavand.

Consequently, authorities in Tehran used the comment as evidence for her imprisonment.

'This was a very happy surprise after a number of false dawns recently, which had been increasingly unsettling'. Zaghari-Ratcliffe denies the charges.

He said: "Our thanks to all those involved in making this possible in Tehran and London, and to the new Foreign Secretary for all his recent efforts and considerations". Both Zaghari-Ratcliffe and her father had to agree to certain terms- she is forbidden from giving media interviews, she can not visit any foreign embassy, and she must not attempt to leave Iran. I think there's probably wider things that aren't personal to do with the United Kingdom and Iranian relationship.
