Air quality issues ongoing; MPCA says it will exit tomorrow

Manitoba affected by BC wildfire smoke, special air quality alert in effect

Doctors warn that vacuuming can kick up particulate matter, potentially making unhealthy air even worse.

Officials say air quality over the area is poor because of smoke from wildfires and terrain that traps smoke in valleys.

Certain people are more likely to be affected when fine particle pollution reaches an unhealthy level.

The main concern today is areas of widespread smoke continuing to affect air quality and the visibility across the state.

Conditions are expected to get worse Sunday night and last through Wednesday.

Satellite images show strong northeast winds carried smoke across the Cascades from fires burning in Eastern Washington on Monday afternoon. The air quality index ranges from "Good" (green) to "Hazardous", (dark purple).

Air quality advisories have been posted across the Pacific Northwest, due to fires in the United States and Canada - many of which are still uncontrolled.

The Southwest Clean Air Agency and Washington State Department of Ecology have continued an air quality advisory that will remain in effect until noon Wednesday for Clark County and other nearby counties.

"I went biking yesterday, and I really felt it in my lungs, and I was really headachy and like, lethargic", Simon said Monday.

Air quality advisories were in effect for portions of Washington and OR, according to the weather service.

Those at particular risk include those with heart and lung conditions, as well as diabetics, infants, or the elderly. But that shift will sends smoke streaming back toward the Lower Mainland, South Coast, and Vancouver Island, where air quality will begin to deteriorate through Sunday evening.
