A group of gun rights activists posted downloadable blueprints to create 3D plastic guns Tuesday evening from their own sites, even after a Seattle-based judge placed a temporary restraining order blocking the original company's launch.
New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced on Twitter that the order would go into effect nationwide and described it as a "major victory for common sense and public safety".
Defense Distributed reached a settlement with the United States government last month that allowed it to post 3-D-printable gun plans online starting August 1, 2018.
The states sought a restraining order and an injunction to block the gun info from being posted on the internet.
"I am thankful and relieved Judge Lasnik put a nationwide stop to the Trump Administration's risky decision to allow downloadable, 3D-printed ghost guns to be distributed online", Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson said.
"When it comes to something as basic as public safety, our State Department's saying, hey, this is a giveaway for terrorists", said Bob Ferguson, Washington Attorney General.
Trump earlier Tuesday tweeted that he was looking at the issue.
"Well, fix this deadly mistake that once again your administration has made", Markey said in a remark directed at the president.

Defense Distributed's website said it would publish the files on Wednesday but blueprints for seven guns already were available for download on Tuesday. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said while pointing to an image of a 3-D printed semi-automatic assault rifle.
US District Judge Robert Pitman in Austin, Texas found that the groups, including the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, lacked legal standing.
Five years ago, Cody Wilson launched what he called "the era of the downloadable gun", a time when anyone can use a 3D printer to make a working firearm.
A website that will allow anyone to download files to 3D print guns is facing a new legal battle, this time from local attorneys general, who want to stop the files from circulating across the US.
The settlement agreement allowed Defense Distributed to freely publish its gun designs, but according to Ferguson's office, the agreement, which wasn't made public until July 10, was done "in an arbitrary and capricious" fashion by the Trump administration and violates the Administrative Procedure Act.
As a result, the state attorneys are also suing the Trump administration for making the settlement with Wilson. "It has also remained illegal for prohibited persons to build firearms with 3D printers or by any other means as well". "Already spoke to the NRA, doesn't seem to make much sense!" the president tweeted. "Federal law passed in 1988, crafted with the NRA's support, makes it unlawful to manufacture, import, sell, ship, deliver, possess, transfer, or receive an undetectable firearm".
Although Defense Distributed was expected to publicise the plans on Wednesday, more than 1,000 people have downloaded the files for building an AR-15 rifle - the same gun used in many of America's mass shootings - since Friday.
