"Our second boat Freedom will follow Al Awda within a day or two, and the Freedom Flotilla will continue until the blockade ends and Palestinians of Gaza regain their full freedom of movement", they said.

For 8 consecutive years, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition has been launching a new campaign to challenge the Israeli siege, which has gutted the Gaza economy and deprived its population of many basic commodities.

The Israeli and Egyptian blockade on Gaza began in 2007, when Hamas took control of the strip from the Palestinian Authority, implemented in order to prevent military equipment and artillery from reaching terror elements like the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' military wing.

Clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli troops Friday at the Gaza border left at least two dead and hundreds more injured, the Gaza health ministry said.

Adham Abu Salima, a spokesperson for Gaza's National Committee for Breaking the Siege, confirmed the attack by Israeli forces on the Freedom Flotilla ship.

The flotilla boat also carried a quantity of urgently needed medical supplies to be gifted to Gaza's over-stretched health services, and the boat itself was intended as a gift to Gaza's fishers.

The worldwide Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) is a grassroots people-to-people solidarity movement composed of campaigns and initiatives from all over the world working together to end the siege of Gaza.

Treen was tasered repeatedly while in the wheelhouse of the boat Al Awda, then tightly handcuffed, Hehir said.

In the army of Israel also noted that the ship being towed to the port city of Ashdod.

"The embassy in Tel Aviv has contact with Israeli authorities in connection with the case", Andersen said.

Local Palestinian reacted to the arrests by rioting, which were met with standard crowd disbursement methods by Israeli forces.

The Israeli decision came in response to the Palestinian arson kites and helium balloons flying from Gaza into Israel, which caused large fire and losses in the Israeli territory.

And in 2015, a flotilla of four boats bound for Gaza was redirected to Ashdod.

A 2010 attempt to breach the blockade ended in disaster. In the past, mechanical failures have affected previous flotilla attempts, with allegations Israel may have tampered with the ships.

Palestinian militants have in recent weeks fired hundreds of rockets into Israel from Gaza and have opened fire at Israeli troops across the border, killing one soldier and drawing fatal Israeli air and tank strikes.

The blockade has pushed Gaza's two million people deeper into poverty with unprecedented unemployment rates.
