President Trump Says He Holds Putin 'Responsible' for Election Meddling

Donald Trump thinks intelligent people approve of him

Hours after President Donald Trump seemingly claimed Russian Federation was no longer targeting the US, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders sought to clarify that statement.

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday his meeting with Vladimir Putin would lead to "big results", in a continuing bid to calm a storm over his failure to criticize the Russian leader for Moscow's actions to undermine the 2016 USA election.

On Monday, Trump sent shockwaves through the United States when during a joint press conference with Putin he brushed aside the USA intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Previously when asked by reporters before a Cabinet meeting whether Moscow was still targeting the U.S., Trump shook his head and said, "No".

The remarks comes just two days after Trump was criticized for saying he did not "see any reason why" Russian Federation would be responsible for meddling in the 2016 US Presidential election.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats has since reiterated his support of the conclusions of multiple intelligence agencies that Russians meddled in the election.

"I had a chance to speak with the president after those comments, and the president was - said "Thank you very much, ' and was saying 'No" to answering questions", Sanders said, answering a question from CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett.

Trump said he accepted the intelligence community's assessment that Russian Federation had meddled in the election, and offered a rambling explanation of his assertion that he could not see "any reason" why Russian Federation would interfere.

Bannon, a former Goldman Sachs banker, told the business-minded crowd that "free trade is a radical idea", and that tariffs are good for the economy. "I think the hysteria that came from the opposition party media, the full meltdown, missed the big picture". There was also information gathered from a top-secret source close to Putin, which outlined the Kremlin's plan to sway the 2016 election, the report said. Trump appeared to directly contradict what Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, has said on the matter.

"So many people at the higher ends of intelligence loved my press conference performance in Helsinki", Trump said in a series of early-morning tweets about their Monday summit.

"In a key sentence in my remarks, I said the word "would" instead of "wouldn't", he explained. We're not going to have it. Initially, after that violent weekend, Trump said there was hatred displayed "on many sides" of the protests, suggesting that racist and hateful white supremacists and peaceful counterprotesters were on the same plane.

According to Trump, he was "Very strong on the fact that we can't have meddling, we can't have any of that".

Jackson noted on Twitter that saying no to questions is not how Trump says no to questions.
