Ireland underage worldwide called up to Manchester City squad

Manchester City's Catalan manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola thought he had agreed a deal for Italy midfielder Jorginho to join City from Napoli, only for the move to collapse when the Brazilian-born player followed former manager Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea instead.

"It would have been a mistake for him if he came and he wanted to go to Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri. He's so young and in two years it is another European Championships and then in four years another World Cup", Guardiola said during a press conference during their United States tour.

"All my advice for the players is they have to play where they want to go". English football received an exceptional player at the end. All the best for him.

Hart is looking for a permanent move away from the Etihad Stadium, after successive season-long loans at Torino and West Ham, but the City boss has been impressed by his attitude.

City play Chelsea in the Community Shield on 5 August before opening their league campaign at Arsenal a week later.

"We'll decide on the last day".

On Jorginho, Guardiola added: "I was disappointed (not to sign him)".

"It could be like what happened with Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz - he could stay with us, because from what we have seen in these days, the impression is good, so good".

The Premier League champions will play Borussia Dortmund in Chicago on Friday, July 20, before heading to NY to play Liverpool on Wednesday, July 25, and then finishing their trip with a match against Bayern Munich in Miami on Saturday, July 28.

However, the Borussia Dortmund forward said he could not explain the absence of City winger Sane, who was not picked despite his outstanding performances in the Premier League. "I can't say why certain decisions were made".
