Amazon goes to the dogs after Prime Day downtime

Amazon.com Having Site Outages During Amazon Prime Day Launch

"Prime Day 2018 has exceeded our expectations - sales are up more than 400 percent over a typical day".

Amazon's website ran into some snags quickly Monday on its much-hyped Prime Day, an embarrassment for the tech company on the shopping holiday it created.

As Amazon Prime Day goes into full swing, labor unions in Europe are protesting the e-commerce giant over poor working conditions at the company's delivery centers. Almost every device Amazon makes is now available at a deep discount, and you'll find every single one of them below. This is the stuff that's probably never going to make it to the front page of the main Prime Day site, but that we appreciate anyways.

Looking for more? Step right this way, sir/madam. The company said it welcomed more new members than any previous day and for the first time, members in Australia, Singapore, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

Some links to supporting retailers are automatically made into affiliate links, and GameSpot may receive a small share of those sales. "Extending Prime Day to 36 hours this year allowed us to further reward members with unbeatable deals, access to exclusive new products and unforgettable experiences that highlight the many benefits of a Prime membership", Amazon India head Amit Agarwal said in a statement. Spending increased 89 per cent from a year earlier during the first 12 hours of the event, according to estimates from Feedvisor, which sells pricing software used by Amazon merchants.

In some ways, Prime Day emphasizes the Black Friday mindset that many retailers are trying to move away from: that products have to be heavily discounted before consumers will buy. Despite early website outages in the US, Amazon said the first 10 hours Prime Day grew even faster, year-over-year, than the first 10 hours last year. It recently announced that the cost of Prime membership would go up, and the shopping day is a way to prove the value. The Echo Dot, Echo Spot, Echo Look, Fire TV Stick with Alexa and Kindle readers were among some of the best deals, ranging from 30% to 50% off. Retail think tank Coresight Research predicted that sales will reach $3.4 billion this year, about $1 billion more than last year.

There are tons of other deals on TVs, monitors, memory cards, cables, battery packs, and a whole lot more, so be sure to check out everything Prime Day 2018 has to offer.

Amazon uses Prime Day to boost sales, recruit Prime members and promote its own products.
