Chelsea confirm Antonio Conte has been sacked with 52-word statement

COBHAM ENGLAND- JULY 11 Antonio Conte of Chelsea during a training session at Chelsea Training Ground

Chelsea has fired manager Antonio Conte after a two-year tenure in which he won the English Premier League and FA Cup.

That is all about to change though with the Italian heading to London to sign a deal to replace Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge but to many on these shores, the former Napoli boss remains something of a mystery.

Friday's Chelsea statement announcing that they had "parted company" with Conte was brief, and without a thank you, but it did highlight what the club had achieved before relations soured.

But he was warned not to follow the title success with "a Mourinho season" in reference to their slump of 2015-16 when they finished 10th, a year after winning the league under the Portuguese.

'We wish Antonio every success in his future career'.

Ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is expected to succeed his compatriot at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old was a star player for Maurizio Sarri's side that pushed Juventus all the way in the Serie A title race last season.

Chelsea seeks a 13th permanent manager under Abramovich's ownership, and at possibly the most turbulent period of the Russian billionaire's trophy-filled reign.

Whilst the club has been stuck in limbo courtesy of the situation regarding Conte's future, transfer negotiations have carried on, although sales have been complicated.

Sources told ESPN FC on Thursday that Conte, who had refused to walk away from Chelsea unless the final year of his contract was paid in full, had been sacked.

The club also recorded the second-highest points tally in a Premier League season. Each of these three players, among others, thrived under the tutelage of Sarri and that will be fascinating for Chelsea fans heading into the new ere.

Only the pay was improved, though, with Conte's contract still running for just another two seasons - hardly a show of commitment by either the club or its manager.
