Harry Kane delivers his verdict on England win over Tunisia

England fans clash with Tunisians in Marseille

Kane proved the hero for England on Monday, heading in a late victor - his second of the game - to secure a 2-1 victory in the Three Lions' World Cup opener against Tunisia .

England avoided an early stumble at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation on Monday, turning what looked appeared to be a draw against Tunisia in Group G into three points.

Kane praised the character of his England team-mates to fight until the final minute of the match. He had never won a trophy with Tottenham.

Harry Kane starred for England in their 2-1 win over Tunisia. We were unlucky not to score maybe a few more'.

Kieran Trippier swung in the corner from the right flank, Harry Maguire flicked it on and Kane, unmarked at the back post, guided the ball into the net for his second goal of the game and the victor.

With three points secured, England is well positioned to escape the group stage, with an upcoming matchup against Belgium likely to determine which team takes the honor of winning the group.

England made a deserved breakthrough in the 11th minute, after a high-octane start, when Kane tucked home from close-range after Tunisian goalkeeper Mouez Hassan acrobatically kept out a John Stones' header.

"We created so many clear cut chances, especially in the first half, and were in total control in the second half".

Then Kane came to the rescue in stoppage time. It costs them two goals and the match.

"Harry Maguire's potential is huge", said Southgate of the 25-year-old.

"I'm really proud. We did a lot of work on training field and were itching to play. We just have to hope that officials are getting it right more often than not".

Kane largely disappeared for the 80 minutes that separated his goals, but he has that indefinable quality that elevates great strikers above the rest - he will always, somehow, find a way to earn one last chance, and one is generally all he needs. "We kept going. We spoke a lot about togetherness and we've got a great bond together", he said.

After Monday's game though, it might make sense to go the other way and start with the Spurs man against Panama. "We got lucky and we got the goal in the end".

Don't miss a moment of the World Cup!

Harry Kane scored a dramatic stoppage-time victor as England beat Tunisia 2-1 in Volgograd.

England manager Gareth Southgate paid tribute to Kane, as he suggested his skipper confirmed his class with two valuable goals.

"If he hadn't scored, I'd be answering questions about his ability to score in tournament football", Southgate told the press.
