Johanna Konta reaches final of Nottingham Open

WTA International- Nature Valley Open

Konta is aiming to become the first Brit to win a WTA singles grass title at home since former Wimbledon champion Virginia Wade in Eastbourne in 1975.

"She's improved a lot and is playing very well over the a year ago since she's come back and getting better and better".

Konta didn't let the improvement of her opponent phase her answering with a shutout in the second game.

The world No.22, who beat Barty in the quarters past year before losing to Vekic in the final, breezed through the opening set.

Several minutes passed before she returned for the trophy ceremony, although Konta would not say whether she was complaining about what had happened. However, Konta was able to get revenge just a couple of weeks later as she defeated Vekić in the second round of Wimbledon with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 victory.

In the second match on court, the British number one breezed through the opening set in half-an-hour before, with Vekic having called for the trainer and looking ready to go for further treatment, the players were forced off by rain.

"Nottingham brings back very good memories of back when it was an ITF $50K tournament, not even WTA yet", Barty said.

The players did eventually return after over an hour off the court due to the rain delay.

Konta had recovered from 4-1 down in the decider to level at 4-4 but a controversial call allowed Barty go 5-4 ahead. However, the big moment of the match came in the seventh game as Konta controversially broke for a second time in the set. I'm sure she's going to be playing her best tennis. This clearly affected her concentration as she committed a double fault in the next point and allowed Konta to take a 4-3 lead. "I'm pretty pleased with that", she added. The Australian, who owns an 18-1 win-loss record after losing the first set this season with only comeback defeat matured against Serena Williams in Paris, opened the second with a crucial break.
