James Comey Used Personal Email For FBI Business, Inspector General Finds

Trump I did a great service by firing Comey

A new report from the Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General states that former FBI Director James Comey "clearly and dramatically from FBI and department norms" in his treatment of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails. But the inspector general said it found no evidence that political bias affected the outcome of the investigation. I assume that he contemplated stopping Trump by leaking damaging (whether true or false) information gleaned from that investigation to the press.

The report criticized Comey for publicly announcing his recommendation against criminal charges for Clinton. "The IG report yesterday went a long way to show that and I think that the Mueller investigation has been totally discredited", Mr Trump told journalists at the White House yesterday.

Giuliani, however, said in a Fox News interview that it's time to "investigate the investigators".

In response to a question about whether the President believes that Strzok should still be employed by the FBI, Sanders said, "I haven't specifically asked him. but my guess would be no". The president said actions disclosed in the report were "a real insult" to voters in the 2016 election. "I did a great service to the people in firing him", Trump tweeted.

The Justice Department's internal watchdog found Comey broke protocol in his handling of the email probe involving Democrat Hillary Clinton. "It will go down as a dark and unsafe period in American history". "We found that, given the absence of exigent circumstances and the frequency with which the use of personal email occurred, Comey's use of a personal email account for unclassified Federal Bureau of Investigation business to be inconsistent with Department policy".

Mr. Trump slammed former FBI Director James B. Comey Friday after revelations from the report.

But the report, released on Thursday, also concluded that the FBI's investigation was not tainted by political bias, even as it uncovered an email from Strzok to then-fellow FBI employee Lisa Page during the 2016 campaign saying Trump would not become president. "It's unbelievable what this administration got away with", Bongino added.

The self-admiration comes despite Trump having said in a television interview shortly after the explosive firing that he got rid of Comey because of "this Russian Federation thing".

Nonetheless, this week's hearings are more likely to be a launchpad for further review of the FBI's conduct and the origins of the Mueller probe than they are a final word on the IG's report.
