Trump Throws Allies Curveball, Proposes G7 'Zero Tariff' Trade Zone

McCain Trump “diminishing America’s leadership”

A member of Macron's team characterised Friday's talks as "frank and robust", with Trump first repeating his lengthy diatribe about what he regards as unfair trade restrictions - before the Europeans responded with facts and figures they felt would blunt his argument.

On Saturday, Trump repeated his desire to have a sunset clause in an updated NAFTA deal, a demand that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has rejected.

Trump says he will depart shortly for Singapore on a "mission of peace". Bannon said China is "now on notice that Trump will not back down from even allies" complaints in his goal of "America First'".

Canada's Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland expressed outrage that Trump had invoked a national security justification for his global tariff on steel and aluminum imports, even those from close U.S. allies.

Ahead of the encounter, the allies made no secret of their anger at Trump's stance, pointed starkly to fears that he is undermining the rules-based world order and driving former U.S. friends into a damaging trade war.

In response, the European Union is preparing new tariffs set to hit U.S. exports ranging from jeans to bourbon whiskey.

He wrote on his Twitter profile: "Please tell Prime Minister Trudeau and President Macron that they are charging the U.S. massive tariffs and create non-monetary barriers".

The proposal comes following two days of testy back-and-forth comments on trade between the United States president and Washington's Canadian and European allies.

Such a summit would be the third such meeting of Trump and Putin since Trump took office past year. There is nothing they can say.

President Donald Trump has opened his second day at an global summit at a breakfast discussion on gender equality. Trump fired back, saying the United States had been duped for for years by barriers and that any country that imposed its own measures would regret it.

'I have not spoken to Vladimir Putin for quite a while. "This used to be the G8, not the G7, and something happened a while ago where Russian Federation is no longer in".

"I blame our leaders and I congratulate leaders of other countries for taking advantage of our leaders", Trump said.

On Saturday, Trump blamed former President Barack Obama for Russia's aggression toward its neighbor.

"The relationship that I've had with these leaders is great.so you can tell that to your fake friends at CNN", he said after a reporter from that network asked about the state of the relationship with these close US allies.

It's not clear what Trump thought Obama should have done to prevent Putin from sending in Russian troops to seize the Black Sea peninsula from neighboring Ukraine.

His early departure from the G7 meant he will miss sessions on climate change and the environment.

The President warned Canada and Europe to back off their threats to hit back with retaliatory trade measures on July 1 if the USA does not lift the steel and aluminum levies.

Trump said he discussed the idea of eliminating tariffs with his G7 counterparts.

French President Emmanuel Macron, whose country will assume the G7 presidency after Canada, said work would continue.

Trump has long criticized the United States' goods deficit.

In public, Trump bantered easily with his fellow leaders, but the meeting came at a tense moment in the relationships, with allies steaming over Trump's new tariffs on imported steel and aluminum from Canada, Mexico and the European Union. "So we are going in with a really positive spirit".
