Dennis Rodman will be in Singapore for USA-North Korea summit

N. Korea’s Kim invited to Russia with official visit

Nobel Prize winning anti-nuclear campaign group ICAN has offered to pay for the cost of the historic summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump, including the hotel bill for the impoverished state's leader.

Delegations from the USA and North Korea met four times last week at the Capella Hotel to hash out the logistics of the summit, with setting an appropriate venue for the summit at the top of the agenda.

In the letter, Mr Trump wrote he felt it was "inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting" after "tremendous anger and open hostility" displayed in North Korea's statement calling US Vice President Mike Pence a "political dummy".

Balakrishnan is the latest senior foreign official to visit the North as summit preparations heat up - last month, top diplomats from China and Russian Federation made trips to Pyongyang.

Experts have voiced concern that despite Trump's claim to be the world's greatest dealmaker, he knows little about North Korea, arms control or global diplomacy.

Topping their demands is the elimination of "all nuclear, chemical and biological weapons from North Korea".

Singapore also revoked all work permits held by North Korean citizens in March.

Meanwhile, top Republican senator Marco Rubio said that the Singapore summit is just the beginning of a process and nothing major would come out of it.

"We said, 'Well, we're not going to have a summit under those circumstances, '" he said.

Senior Fellow at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore, Malcolm Cook said, " Capella being on Sentosa, a resort Island, makes it easier to cut off without disrupting the rest of Singapore.

Last week, Trump met with the highest ranking North Korean official in 18 years at the White House.

"We're not paying for their expenses", she said, adding that the United States has not asked other countries to "pay for this".

The Fullerton Hotel - where Mr Kim and the advance team from North Korea were staying last week - and the F1 Pit Building, which will serve as the base for the more than 3,000 journalists flocking to the island, are both outside the declared "special event areas".

On May 24, Trump canceled the meeting with Kim, citing "tremendous anger and open hostility" in recent statements toward the USA from the North Korean government.

"I don't want to speculate on the timing or what may or may not happen", Nauert said. "We are talking about the installation of a gas pipeline", the Russian president said.
