The Times divulges Abramovich's plans to sell Chelsea for 1.2 billion euros

Roman Abramovich is reportedly unhappy with Conte

The visa issue is widely believed to be the main reason for Chelsea owner Abramovich putting the club's planned redevelopment of Stamford Bridge on hold. "The club does not have a time frame set for reconsideration of its decision", the statements reads.

'The decision was made due to the current unfavourable investment climate'.

The leading architect firm Herzog and de Meuron had produced a Gothic design for Abramovich's personal project, which would have seen Stamford Bridge match Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham for their stadium size.

The club's billionaire owner personally took the decision to call a halt to the huge project as, according to friends, he is unwilling to invest more money into a country where he is not permitted to work.

Roman Abramovich could sell Chelsea after he was denied a United Kingdom visa and subsequently shelved the club's plans for a new stadium - but he will demand a hefty price.

The latest Sunday Times rich list values the Russian at £9.3bn.

Abramovich is also going through problems of his own as the United Kingdom delays his tier-1 visa application while diplomatic tensions increase between Russian Federation and the UK.

Premier league winners in 2016/17, Chelsea missed out on Champions League football by finishing fifth this year, and there is substantial uncertainty around the future of manager Antonio Conte.

A clause in Sarri's contract that would allow him to leave Napoli for £7m expires at midnight on Thursday, but Chelsea have so far been unmoved by that particular deadline. It has not been confirmed that the Abramovich situation is the reason, but that is the assumption of most observers.

The Daily Mail suggests that Chelsea could turn to Laurent Blanc, the former France and PSG boss.

Blanc is the "prime candidate" for the Chelsea job, the Mail reports, and is available immediately.
