Jack'd Responded To Facebook's New Dating Feature

Facebook is taking on Tinder and the internet is saying 'swipe left.'

This new dating service feature is definitely going to give a neck to neck competition to different dating apps like OkCupid and Tinder.

Facebook's annual F8 developer event kicked off today, and the company had a number of pretty big announcements.

Zuckerberg said, "This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships - not just hook-ups". What's behind the new dating app from Facebook?

"We're hard at work making sure people don't misuse our platform". The tech giant also launched another new feature which lets users post to Instagram from other non-Facebook apps like Spotify.

Facebook's chief product officer, Chris Cox, explained the dating profile would be separate from users' everyday profiles and that personal information would only be visible to other users on the app, not regular users who don't partake in the dating feature.

As such, it won't suggest your friends as people you might want to date, but rather find you new profiles from outside your friends' list.

That criticism intensified last month after revelations that Cambridge Analytica, a political consulting firm that had worked on Donald Trump's campaign, improperly harvested and used the Facebook data of as many as 87 million users.

"What people do within the dating feature will not be shown to their friends", Facebook said in a statement announcing the new feature, which is now slated to roll out later this year. And, the first time you message will be text only - no emojis, gifs or pictures - which Facebook says is a safety measure. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) posed to Facebook founder/CEO Mark Zuckerberg's congressional hearing in which the latter responded with an awkward "no". Irrespective of its timing, Match Group believes "Facebook's entry will only be invigorating" to the digital dating industry as a whole, Ms. Ginsberg said.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday announced a new privacy control called "Clear History".

We will have to wait for the service to be officially launched to see how well it fares. With a dating service, Facebook will know who you're seeing, how often you date, and the type of people you're most interested in.

Given the proliferation of free dating platforms in the past decade - a third of 18 to 29-year-olds in the U.S. now use an online dating service - many considered it only a matter of time before Facebook bought into the $3 billion industry.

My instinct is that Facebook Dating will be something of a success, entirely down to the sheer scale of the site. We'll still provide apps and websites with aggregated analytics - for example, we can build reports when we're sent this information so we can tell developer if their apps are more popular with men or women in a certain age group.

What is interesting is that Facebook seems to have changed tact after the Cambridge Analytica debacle, they are just getting greedier by the day.
