Comedian Michelle Wolf receives support for White House Correspondents' Dinner gig

The comedian roasted pretty much everyone in the Trump administration in her speech, as well as the attending media. The comedian, who has never held her tongue on topics political or otherwise, did what she's famous for: injecting humor into a situation that really isn't that amusing. Numerous critical responses to Wolf's caustic monologue wound up showing the extent to which the joke here truly is on tribal, insular Washington itself, and why cozy media events like Saturday's dinner are inevitably uncomfortable and better off put to rest. "Unfortunately the entertainer's monologue was not in the spirit of that mission".

Here's the thing. Wolf didn't really take a vicious pop at Sanders' appearance.

Michelle Wolf's monologue at the White House correspondents' dinner left many commentators wondering whether the tradition of having comedians perform at the dinner should be continued or not.

Defenders of the comedienne praised her act saying she was only calling out the President and his aides' constant lying and distortion and Trump deserved to get what he often dished out. "Because she's not going to waste any time trying to decide when it is or isn't proper to make fun of people in power who lie to us on a daily basis".

On Comedy Central's "Daily Show", host Trevor Noah said Wolf used to be a former correspondent on his show and mocked people's outrage over her comments about Sarah Sanders, Kellyanne Conway and jokes about abortion. I love you as Aunt Lydia in "The Handmaid's Tale.' Mike Pence, if you haven't seen it, you would love it", Wolf said. Some journalists called Wolf's performance mean-spirited and others demanded that she apologize. "I would say if this is about celebrating the media, she wasn't there to celebrate the media".

So far, President Trump has tweeted that the dinner - which he skipped for the second straight year - was an "embarrassment to everyone associated with it" and a representation of "FAKE NEWS". I said she burns facts and uses the ash to create a *perfect* smoky eye. So I think a lot of conservatives and Trump fans looked at that and said, oh, this is beyond the pale.

"There's plenty where you could look back and the camera was on Obama when people were making pretty aggressive jokes. and he was laughing", she said.
