Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says there is more to come from him

The England worldwide found the net for the second time against City this season at Anfield, having also scored from distance in Liverpool's 4-3 Premier League triumph back in January.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was, in truth, being unduly harsh on himself but, equally, there was something refreshing about listening to this articulate 24-year-old talk with such maturity and candour.

"Hendo [Jordan Henderson] was warning me about that before, he said "wait until you see it tonight" and I kind of knew what he meant but until you're out there and you see what the fans are doing and how much passion there was, it's was incredible to be part of".

"It got me going and I'm sure it got the rest of the boys going". I wouldn't say to the extent it did that because they still played some good stuff and dominated the ball but it definitely played a part in the first half.

His first season at Liverpool has been far from ideal - lowlights include a 5-0 defeat to City on his debut and dismal showings against Leicester in the League Cup and more recently Manchester United - but he could still feasibly end the season with European silverware and his career revitalised under Jurgen Klopp. That gives you the opportunity to do things you're not used to, and that's what helped him.

Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping his good form at Liverpool will be enough to book a ticket on the plane to Russian Federation this summer as part of England's World Cup squad. All Klopp has done is play him more often and in a more central role, where he would have had no chance of playing at Arsenal with the likes of Mesut Ozil in the side. But I wasn't too happy [with my performance].

"I feel it was the right time".

Oxlade-Chamberlain was annoyed with himself, "disappointed", for not being better on the ball, particularly in a second half when City's dominance of possession was absolute but without the necessary level of goal to really hurt Liverpool.

It is perhaps an over-exaggeration to claim that Klopp has transformed Oxlade-Chambrlain.

"We definitely have qualities that are suited to this competition", he added. A pattern emerged of one good game followed by three or four hugely frustrating ones, with the Ox one of several Arsenal players particularly guilty of losing possession in indefensible areas.
