Naidu meets leaders of Oppn parties, BJP allies

The two leaders met to tune up support on pressuring Centre to give special status to the state.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu will meet key opposition leaders in New Delhi on Tuesday to enlist their support for his party's no confidence motion against the central government.

Since the TDP snapped ties with the NDA over failure of the Centre to grant special category state status to Andhra Pradesh, Naidu has held talks with leaders of the TMC, NCP, DMK, AIADMK, SP and BSP.

"We are thankful to them". Once you promise it is an issue of credibility. The Congress had issued a no-confidence motion against the centre last month. "They did a few minor things, but a major part of (Andhra Pradesh) bifurcation act was not implemented".

While accusing the BJP leadership of "shielding" the opposition YSR Congress Party, Naidu alleged that the regional party is tainted because of various allegations against it.

Subsequently, the BJP refuted Naidu's charges and ridiculed him for his attempts to seek support from the Opposition.

He also met BJP MPs Murli Manohar Joshi and Hema Malini. "So they should offer support to our cause", he said. What is the reason? "Even though the TDP has gone away from us, our commitment to the people of Andhra Pradesh is firm". Ultimately, in the last budget, they denied everything. "He was very appreciative of that", Salim said, adding that Naidu endorsed the proposal to move together. But if they go with the Congress, then Naidu will be perceived as a rank opportunist. Generally, I have lot of patience and I won't take a decision immediately on anything. I waited for four years. I am always positive and friendly with everybody but when there is an injustice ...

He said that despite several progressive measures taken by the Centre, the member of the SC/ST continues to be the victims of the victim of the abhorrent practice of untouchability and caste based discrimination.

On Day One, Naidu will confine himself to the TDP Legislature Party chambers in Parliament and meet the floor leaders of the political parties who come calling on him. Chandrababu said all he was focusing right now is to get due benefits to the truncated state of Andhra Pradesh. As both remained tight-lipped about what they discussed, speculation was rife in BJP circles. Sometimes BJP is more responsible. "The Congress is exclusively responsible for the plight of Andhra Pradesh". BJP promised, you did not deliver.
